Most famous for his journalistic comics about people living in war zones from Gaza to the Balkans, Sacco’s newest book Paying the Land took him to the Northwest Territories. He visited Dene communities to ask for their views on resource extraction on their land, and found that he had to portray it in the context of the complicated history of colonialism, its effects on these Indigenous people, their culture, and how they see their future.
